Flambards in Helston, Cornwall
Flambards in Helston, Cornwall, was the first UK theme park to install Voltis, in 2009. At its peak it can cater for 8,000 visitors across a 26 acre site. It has this to say: “The major test was to put maximum demand on the Voltis unit by starting as many rides and electrical processes as we could all at the same time. Amps dropped from 1003 on standard supply to 708 on ‘save mode’ (with Voltis), showing an immediate saving of 295 amps per phase (on a three phase supply). This decrease in capacity allowed us to install a new ride without the need to upgrade the power supply to the park. Switching was seamless with no effect on equipment. We would encourage and recommend other businesses to follow in our footsteps and install a voltage optimisation unit of this calibre.”
Quantifying savings has proved difficult for Flambards given the number of site improvements made during 2010, a new supermarket being built locally and a new ride being added. However, it realised a 15.8% saving on KWH for a given three month period.
